Mankato Officials Seek Owner of Lost Pitbull Mix Found at City Intersection (hoodline.com) — City of Mankato officials are trying to reunite a tan and white male Pitbull mix, found Saturday at Rock Street and 2nd Street, with his owner. The unchipped, untagged dog is being held at the city impound in Sibley Park, and residents are urged to contact Public Safety to claim him and arrange pickup.
   

2. Red Kettle campaign stages challenge (mankatofreepress.com) — Mankato residents are being urged to help fill Salvation Army red kettles during a three-day donation challenge, when private donors will match gifts up to $30,000. Funds support year-round local services like free lunches, eviction and utility assistance, and a day shelter. Donations made Wednesday through Friday at area kettles will have double the impact for neighbors in need.
   

3. Dakota Exiles Ride begins nearly 33-mile trek to Mankato (keyc.com) — Riders honoring the Dakota people exiled after the 1862 U.S.-Dakota War are traveling 290 miles to finish in downtown Mankato the day after Christmas, joining other reconciliation events at the memorial site. The Dakota Exiles Ride also promotes a substance-free journey and raises awareness about addiction and suicide affecting Indigenous communities.
   

4. Area counties honored for public health innovation (dglobe.com) — A major regional public health partnership built around Minnesota State University, Mankato just earned a statewide innovation award, highlighting the university’s growing role in rural health. Twenty-five southwest and south-central counties are working with MSU students and faculty on data, communication, and emergency preparedness projects that both strengthen local services and give students real-world experience.
