2 Teens Stole Tesla From Mendota Heights Home: Police
After stealing and abandoning the Tesla, the teens fled in a different car and got up to 85 miles per hour, police said.
MENDOTA HEIGHTS, MN β Two teens are accused of stealing a Tesla from a home in Mendota Heights, abandoning it, and fleeing from police in a different car.
The teens fled in a Hyundai and traveled 85 miles per hour, police said. The incident happened Monday afternoon.
The names of the teens were not released because they are minors.

The two teens were each charged with:
- Fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle
- Theft of a motor vehicle
- Theft (motor vehicle use without consent)
- Receiving stolen property (over $5,000)
- Theft (over $1,000 up to $5,000)
They are both currently in custody at the Juvenile Service Center in Hastings, authorities said.

Five teens total were involved, but three of them were released to the custody of their parents, officials said.
Mendota Heights police responded to a report of a possible in-progress burglary and a vehicle theft at a house in Mendota Heights at 3 p.m. on Monday, officials said.
The stolen car was a Tesla Model X, and officers were told that the suspects were driving a blue Hyundai around the time of the theft, police said.
On his way to the house, an officer passed the Hyundai and tried to pull it over, but it sped off, according to authorities.
The Hyundai reached speeds of 85 mph, and even drove off the road to move around a stopped car during the pursuit, police said.
The teens were seen throwing things out the window of the car-including a purse that had been in the stolen Tesla, officials said.
The Hyundai began emitting smoke and the driver tried to exit onto Highway 13, according to police. The driver pulled into a gas station parking lot and the five teens tried to run away, authorities said.
The Hyundai wasn't put in park and ended up rolling into another car, according to police.
Authorities said that the Tesla was found abandoned and that the Hyundai was reported stolen in St. Paul.
