Dakota County Program To Help Treat Contaminated Wells: Report
Nitrate levels are on the rise in private wells in Dakota County, according to a report by The Minneapolis Star Tribune.
DAKOTA COUNTY, MN — A new program in Dakota County will help low-income residents treat their contaminated private wells, according to a report by The Minneapolis Star Tribune.
Dakota County's groundwater protection supervisor told the publication that nitrate levels are on the rise. There are around 8,000 private wells in Dakota County, and around 1,800 likely exceed Minnesota's guidelines for nitrates or magnanese, according to the report.
The county has $20,000 in funding for grants for selected residents to get free reverse osmosis units or water softeners and installation, the report said.
