IGH Fire Department Performs Ice Rescue On Mississippi River

A man was cross-country skiing with his dog when he fell through the ice on the Mississippi River.

INVER GROVE HEIGHTS, MN β€” Inver Grove Heights Fire Department performed an ice rescue on the Mississippi River Monday afternoon, it wrote on its Facebook page.

A man was cross-country skiing with his dog when he fell through the ice, the department said. According to officials, somebody heard the man yelling.

A firefighter in a special suit for ice rescues got the man out of the ice while another another firefighter pulled the rescue line, officials said.

The man was brought to the hospital and his dog was carried off the ice, according to officials. The city's police department and MHealth Ambulance also helped in the rescue, the Fire Department said.
