112 Degree Heat Index Monday Possible: MN Weather

"Dangerously hot conditions" are expected across the Twin Cities metro area and beyond Monday.

TWIN CITIES, MN — The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for the Twin Cities metro area and beyond Monday. The warning lasts through 8 p.m.

"Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 107 in the Twin Cities metro and up to 112 across south central Minnesota," the National Weather Service said in its excessive heat warning Monday.

"Heat-related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events."

The NWS issued the following guidance:

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.

Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.

Monday: Patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 92. Heat index values as high as 105. East wind around 5 mph.

Monday Night: Showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 3am. Some of the storms could be severe and produce heavy rainfall. Low around 72. Northeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Tuesday: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 11am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. West northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 64. North wind 5 to 10 mph.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 80. North northeast wind around 5 mph becoming east in the afternoon.
