3 Deported Convicts Charged With Reentering U.S. After Crimes
A man convicted of child molestation returned after being deported in 2019, authorities said.
MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Several illegal immigrants previously convicted of serious crimes, including child molestation and sexual assault, are now facing charges for reentering the U.S., Minnesota's Acting U.S. Attorney Lisa D. Kirkpatrick announced Monday.
A federal grand jury has returned indictments for the following individuals:
Luis Gerardo Gomez-Esteban, 35, is charged with reentering the U.S. after being deported on May 8, 2019, following his conviction for child molestation in Thurston County, Washington. Upon his return, he also failed to register as a sex offender.

Jose Alfredo Ojeda-Garcia, 33, is accused of illegally reentering the U.S. after multiple convictions for criminal sexual conduct in Faribault County, Minnesota. He had been removed from the country three times: April 23, 2012, May 26, 2021, and January 29, 2022.
Sotero Ortiz-Sanchez, 37, is charged with reentering the U.S. after his conviction for attempted burglary in Lancaster County, Nebraska. He had initially been deported on January 28, 2009.

These cases were investigated by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO).
