Gusts of 45 to 55 mph will whip through the region overnight, creating whiteout conditions, particularly in open areas.

Even after the snowfall ends, blowing and drifting snow will continue to impact visibility well into Wednesday morning.

Travel Impacts

The timing of the storm could lead to treacherous conditions for commuters. Roads will likely become snow-covered and slippery by late Tuesday night, with the worst conditions expected overnight into Wednesday morning. Blowing snow will remain an issue into the afternoon, making travel difficult even after the snow stops falling.

Authorities are urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel, especially in areas south of the metro, where conditions could be nearly impossible due to the combination of heavy snow and high winds.

What to Expect

  • Rain changing to snow Tuesday evening
  • 4 to 7 inches of snow across the metro
  • Wind gusts up to 55 mph, leading to whiteout conditions
  • Difficult travel, especially late Tuesday into Wednesday morning
  • Snow gradually tapering off Wednesday afternoon, but blowing snow continuing

Conditions are expected to improve later in the day Wednesday as winds subside, but those with morning travel plans should prepare for delays and hazardous roads.
