The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) is prepared to provide extended hours and activities for elementary school-age youth at 10 recreation centers if Minneapolis Public Schools teachers strike.

The 10 “hub site” recreation centers will be open Monday-Friday, 12-9 pm.

12-3 pm: Each hub site will offer free, fun, engaging and structured activities for up to 45 youth in grades K-8. Registration is required, with in-person registration available, and online registration found here.

3-9 pm: Youth not registered for the 12-3 pm activities can drop in any time after 3 pm.

The 10 Minneapolis park hub sites are:

• East Phillips Park Cultural and Community Center, 2307 S 17th Ave., 55404
• Longfellow Recreation Center, 3435 36th Ave. S.,55406
• Luxton Recreation Center, 112 Williams Ave. SE, 55414
• Lake Nokomis Community Center, 2401 E Minnehaha Parkway, 55417
• North Commons Recreation Center, 1801 James Ave. N., 55411
• Northeast Recreation Center, 1530 Johnson St. N, 55413
• Sibley Recreation Center, 1900 E 40th St., 55407
• Whittier Recreation Center, 425 W 26th St., 55405

Hub site activities will be tailored and adjusted to meet the needs of those who show up for service. Normal programming for drop-in and registered participants will continue as scheduled during regular recreation center hours, which are 3-9 pm.

The 37 other recreation centers operated by the MPRB will maintain normal hours of 3-9 pm, including Youthline sites open for teen programming 3-9 pm, and Fun on the Run outdoor programming at its current sites 3-5 pm.
