MINNEAPOLIS, MN — A powerful winter storm is set to hit the Twin Cities metro starting late Tuesday night, bringing a mix of rain and snow before transitioning to heavy, wet snowfall early Wednesday morning.

The heaviest snow is expected between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. Wednesday, with 3 to 7 inches possible, though totals will vary across the metro.

Strong north winds gusting up to 40 mph will create blowing snow and hazardous travel conditions, especially south of the metro where blizzard conditions are possible.

The Wednesday morning and evening commutes will be impacted, with reduced visibility, snow-covered roads, and potential flight delays at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

By Wednesday night, snow will taper off, but gusty winds and falling temperatures could lead to refreezing and slick roads into Thursday.
