'Seek Shelter': Special Weather Statement Issued For Minneapolis Area

MINNEAPOLIS — The National Weather Service has issued a "special weather statement" for Minneapolis, St. Paul, and nearby northern suburbs. At about 2:20 p.m., the NWS Doppler radar was tracking an area of thunderstorms near Interstate 94 across the north metro, moving south at 20 mph.

Residents can expect wind gusts up to 50 mph that could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.

"If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building," the NWS stated. "Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways."

Locations potentially impacted include Minneapolis, St. Paul, St. Cloud, Buffalo, Brooklyn Park, Plymouth, Woodbury, Maple Grove, Coon Rapids, Blaine, Minnetonka, and St. Louis Park.

  • Interstate 94 in Minnesota between mile markers 145 and 205.

  • U.S. Highway 169 between mile markers 159 and 172.
