TWIN CITIES, MN — Potentially severe thunderstorms are forecasted to develop Thursday afternoon in western Minnesota and move into the Twin Cities metro early Thursday evening.

Following Thursday's storms, the National Weather Service predicts it will be a quiet and pleasant Labor Day weekend.

Thursday: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 5pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Partly sunny, with a high near 85. Southeast wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Thursday Night: Showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 11pm. Some of the storms could be severe and produce heavy rainfall. Low around 62. Southwest wind 5 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
