Target Is Adding Full Checkout Inside ChatGPT. Here’s What To Know

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Target shoppers will soon be able to browse and buy items directly inside ChatGPT, part of a new partnership the Minneapolis-based retailer says will make online shopping feel more like a natural conversation.

Target announced Wednesday that it will launch a first-of-its-kind shopping experience in ChatGPT next week in beta.

The new in-app tool will let users shop across Target’s full assortment, build baskets with multiple items, and check out in a single transaction.

Shoppers will also be able to choose fulfillment options such as Drive Up, Order Pickup or shipping.

Target said the experience is designed to mimic the curation and convenience people associate with the retailer, but inside a chat interface.

The company said users will eventually be able to link their Target Circle accounts, receive personalized recommendations, and shop fresh food items through ChatGPT.

According to a recent Harris Poll cited by Target, nearly half of Gen Z consumers say they would trust AI to help choose what they buy.

The company said the new feature is built around that trend, allowing people to ask ChatGPT to help with tasks such as planning for a holiday movie night or finding cozy winter items.

Target leaders said the move is part of a larger effort to integrate AI throughout the business. The company uses ChatGPT Enterprise internally to speed up workflows and support operations across stores, supply chain forecasting, and digital personalization.

The retailer plans to expand features in the coming weeks as more shoppers begin using the tool.
