DAKOTA COUNTY, MN — A winter storm watch has been issued for parts of the Twin Cities metro area and much of southern Minnesota from Tuesday evening through Wednesday afternoon, with the potential for 4 to 8 inches of snow and wind gusts up to 50 mph.

The watch covers Dakota, Blue Earth, Faribault, Freeborn, Le Sueur, Martin, Rice, Steele, Waseca, Watonwan, and Goodhue counties, including cities such as Mankato, Red Wing, Owatonna, and Albert Lea.

National Weather Service forecasters warn that blowing and drifting snow could reduce visibility to near zero, creating whiteout conditions that may make travel extremely dangerous. Winds combined with the weight of the snow could also bring down tree limbs and power lines, leading to scattered power outages.
