Local orthodontist raises 675 pounds of candy to support troops overseas and local food shelf

Kids throughout the community went house-to-house collecting candy to celebrate Halloween. Dr. Bergsrud was proud to host a Candy Exchange event to encourage kids to think about their teeth before they consumed large amounts of sugary candy. This event was designed to invite kids to exchange their candy for some healthier, and more generous, alternatives. International School of Minnesota, Immaculate Heart of Mary School and patients came together to donate 675 pounds of candy.

“We are happy to bring awareness of oral health to kids and families during this time,” said Dr. Bergsrud. “Parents are asked to encourage their kids to make healthy snack choices during Halloween, as well as throughout the year.” The goal was to receive 200 pounds of candy and they are so thankful for the support & success! Beautiful Smiles donated the collected candy to our overseas troops, with help from the Minnesotans’ Military Appreciation Fund, and will donate $1 to local food shelf ICA for each pound of candy that was collected.
