Council approves plan extension for Chabad Center for Jewish Life

The city council approved a twelve month extension of the previously-approved site and building plans for Chabad Center for Jewish Life. The conditional use permit, which was approved in 2019, did not require an extension. A permit has not yet been issued for construction of the religious facility to be located off of Hopkins Crossroad to the south of Hillside Lane and to the north of Mill Run.

Council accepts the strategic profile quarter three report

The city council received and accepted the third quarter report for the Strategic Profile. Quarterly reporting provides updates and metrics on the progress of action items and key strategies in the six different areas of the city’s six strategic priorities: Financial Strength and Operational Excellence, Sustainability and Natural Resources, Infrastructure and Asset Management, Safe and Healthy Community, Livable and Well-Planned Development, and Community Inclusiveness.

Council approves purchase of mobile camera trailer

The city council approved an amendment to the 2021-2025 Capital Improvements Program (CIP) to allow the Police Department to purchase a mobile camera trailer, which was originally programmed for purchase in 2024. Current estimates indicate the cost of the trailer is $68,000, which is higher than the $50,000 estimate from the 2021-2025 CIP. The timetable for purchase was changed due to the recent criminal activity in city parks and concern for the safety of park visitors.

Council establishes moratorium on issuance of new tobacco licenses

The city council established a moratorium on the issuance of new tobacco licenses in the city, which will be in effect until March 30, 2022. This will allow the city to study tobacco licensing in the city and consider additional ordinance provisions related to the issue. Currently, the city has twenty-eight active tobacco licenses, of which six are for exclusive tobacco sales.
