City Of Minnetonka: Minnetonka Announces Election Results

Unofficial results from the 2021 Election show Minnetonka voters have re-elected Mayor Brad Wiersum and City Councilmember Deb Calvert to new 4-year terms. Kimberly Wilburn has received the most votes in the contest to elect a new councilmember for At-Large Seat B.

This is the first year Minnetonka voters used a Ranked Choice Voting system.  Under RCV, ballots may be counted in one or more rounds. The first round is tallied using first-preference votes only. If a candidate wins a majority (50% + 1) of the first-preference votes in the first round, that candidate is the winner.

When no candidate wins a majority (50% + 1) of first-preference votes, the candidate with the fewest first-preference votes is eliminated and the process moves to a second round. The process is repeated until one candidate has won a majority (50% + 1) or only one candidate remains.

The City of Minnetonka's election team has finished tabulation and reported the following results:

Mayor

Brad Wiersum won a majority ( 50% +1) of first choice preferences with 6,897 votes for 62.61%

At-Large Seat A

Deb Calvert won a majority ( 50% +1) of first choice preferences with 5,881 votes for 54.51%

At-Large Seat B

Kimberly Wilburn won a majority (50% +1) after four rounds of tabulation with a total of 5,205 votes for 51.07%

These unofficial results will be canvassed at the Nov. 8 Minnetonka City Council meeting.
