  • Winner: Richie Gitler, “Foggy Sunrise” - 538 votes

Gitler was asked what inspired him to take this photo, and his response was heartwarming. “Foggy Sunrise”, taken on the path to Shady Oak Lake near Dominick Drive, has been Gitler’s morning walk with his dog Louie for 10 years. He said it’s been interesting to see the seasons change, as well as the wildlife, colors, and people that come and go. Sometimes Gitler sees a stray canoe at dawn or a Bald Eagle flying low overhead, wings outstretched. But this morning, he said there was an unusual fog that rolled in that was truly magical.

  • Second place: Marlene Smith - 479 votes

Smith took the photo of two male wood ducks fighting over a wood duck house on Windsor Lake. What an action shot! Smith is an amateur photographer, and over the past year, she has found a way to stay positive through the COVID-19 pandemic through her photography of wildlife. Smith would not have been able to watch and photograph these wood ducks fighting in her backyard wetland if she had not been home; a silver lining in these pandemic times.

  • Third place: Levi Black - 183 votes

Black submitted this photo from a Mavic drone, taken at Big Willow Park. It’s not often you get to have a bird’s-eye view of the park! Black said that the sunset was too beautiful to not take a quick photo. Seconds later, his drone hit a tree and crashed into the marsh (don’t worry – his sister retrieved it through 30ft of weeds and burrs). Black said he loves how this photo captures a center spot of Minnetonka and shows off nature and the people of the city.

  • Honorable mention: Christina Black – 170 votes
