Minnetonka: Who to See at the State Fair

The city is sending some of its talent to the Great Minnesota Get-Together

Minnetonka exhibitors are prepared for the fair.

On Thursday, Aug. 25, MysticKnight Cavaliers show four of their Cavalier King Charles Spaniels at the Pet Building. You can ask questions of breeders and get to see and touch the Cavaliers.

At 10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, Minnetonka High School battles against Visitation, Mahtomedi and Patrick Henry high schools in a robotics competition. The action happens at the north end of the Education Building.

They will prepare and give out samples of one of their recipes--a delicious and nutritious frozen food-pop (actually something healthy on a stick). The Minnetonka-based company sells their products at Lakewinds Natural Foods and other Twin Cities Co-ops.

At 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, on the Baldwin Park Stage, cheer on Minnetonka resident Shana Berg, an amateur talent contest semifinalist in the open category. She will perform Bob Dylan’s “Don’t Think Twice.”

Stop by the Eco Experience Passive House, designed and built by North Dakota State University architectural students, including Peter Atwood and Paul Devitt who graduated from Minnetonka High School in 2007. The exhibit features a variety of green options for your home and yard.

Visit the scarecrow created by Gan Shelanu Preschool of the Adath Jeshurun Congregation in the Horticulture Building.

Other Minnetonka names of note: Robert Meath, Division of Honey and Bee Culture superintendent; Mary Gorham, a past ribbon winner and exhibitor this year in canning and honey; and James Lind, a past ribbon winner and exhibitor this year in baking.

Patches from all over the state will be well-represented at the fair on opening day: Thursday, Aug. 25. We would love to meet you. If you see someone in a "Patchy" green T-shirt, come on over to say hello.

And if you’re not too camera shy, we’d love to add a photo or two of you to our photo gallery and hear about what you think is great (or not so great) at the fair this year.
