Minnetonka Woman Charged with Trying to Fill Forged Oxycodone Prescription

The pharmacist suspected the prescription was forged because it looked like a photocopy.

Police believe a Minnetonka woman attempted to fill a forged prescription for Oxycodone.

Michelle Marie Smith, 51, has been summonsed to court on a felony fifth-degree controlled substance charge.

On Nov. 29, a Minnetonka Police Officer was dispatched to Byerly's pharmacy on a report of a prescription forgery in progress. Smith was on scene waiting for the prescription to be filled, according to the criminal compaint. Byerly's staff told police that Smith had presented a prescription for 90 Oxycodone pills in the name of her husband.

The pharmacist suspected the prescription was forged because it looked like a photocopy, the doctor's signature appeared to be forged and it did not have the required micro-printed line on it. The clinic told the officer that Smith's husband had once been a patient there but was never a patient of the doctor who had issued the prescription. 

Police say Smith admitted that she had copied an old prescription of hers.

Oycodone is a Schedule II narcotic.
