1 Dead After Teen Drove At 'High Rate Of Speed' In Northfield: Police

An 18-year-old was traveling at "a high rate of speed" before crashing into another vehicle Thursday morning, according to police.

NORTHFIELD, MN — Northfield police say an 18-year-old was traveling at "a high rate of speed" before crashing into another vehicle Thursday morning, killing the 85-year-old driver inside.

The Northfield Police Department responded to the collission on Jefferson Parkway at the Highway 3 Service Road at about 10:30 a.m.

According to an initial investigation, the driver of a Toyota sedan — identified as an 18-year-old from Dundas — was traveling at a high rate of speed when he struck a Kia SUV.

Both vehicles rolled over and one of them struck the Allina Clinic building, police said.

Allina Clinic medical staff immediately provided emergency medical care for the injured drivers before Northfield EMS took over.

Both drivers were transported to the Hennepin County Medical Center. However, the SUV driver — identified as Bryce Skaar, of Northfield — later died at the hospital.

In a statement, Northfield police said "The investigation to determine the cause of the crash is ongoing and further details will be released at a later date."
