Minnesota Income Tax Brackets Are Changing In 2026: What To Know
The inflation adjustment does not change Minnesota's tax rates, only the income ranges to which those rates apply.
ST. PAUL, MN — Minnesota income tax brackets will increase for tax year 2026 under an annual inflation adjustment announced by the Minnesota Department of Revenue, a change intended to prevent taxpayers from being pushed into higher tax brackets solely because of inflation-driven income growth.
State officials said the brackets are rising by 2.369 percent compared with tax year 2025. The adjustment is required by state law and has been in place since 1979.
Income thresholds are indexed each year using the U.S. Chained Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers and rounded to the nearest $10. The inflation adjustment does not change Minnesota’s tax rates, only the income ranges to which those rates apply.

The updated brackets apply to income earned in 2026. Most Minnesota taxpayers will use them when filing their state income tax returns in 2027. Taxpayers who make quarterly estimated tax payments should begin using the new brackets for payments due starting in April 2026.
Minnesota will continue to use four individual income tax rates in 2026: 5.35 percent, 6.80 percent, 7.85 percent, and 9.85 percent.
