Bernard Charles Devney, 93

Bernard Charles Devney died April 11, 2012 at Evergreen Hospital, in Kirkland Washington, following a fall.  He was predeceased by his parents Charles Devney and Ann (Twohey) Devney, his brothers Edward, Raymond and Kenneth, his infant sister and his wife Elizabeth (Fogarty) Devney.
Born on June 4th 1918 in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, he grew up on a farm.  He and his family moved to Northfield, Minnesota in 1929 when his parents took over his grandparents’  farm.  He graduated from Farmington His School.  He spent much of his boyhood working on the family farm helping his parents raise crops and milk cows (by hand).  After high school he went to the College of St. Thomas, St Paul MN, for two years.  Soon after he was in the military for WWII.  After his return he married Elizabeth Fogarty of Belle Plain, MN.  He initially worked sever jobs including owning a hardware store and managing a grain elevator.  He eventually settled on the office equipment business, owning Devney’s Office Machines in Rochester Minnesota.  He retired in 1980.  He was married to Elizabeth for 61 years until her death in 2007.  During that time they raised and put their three children through college.  In retirement they travelled extensively and spent time with their grandchildren.  They were active in their church initially St. Pius X, then Church of the Resurrection both in Rochester, MN.   In 2003 they moved out to the Seattle WA area to be near their children.  They were active in Holy Family parish in Kirkland WA.

He is survived by his sons Robert  (Seattle, WA), Patrick (Pensecola, Fl) and his daughter Joann Kerr (Kirkland, WA); his six grandchildren, Meghan Andrew, Sarah Berg-Devney,  Zachary Devney, Katherine Devney, Emily Kerr, and Margaret Kerr.

A memorial was held at Aegis Lodge Assisted Living in Kirkland, WA on April 26, 2012.  A wake will be held from 5-8PM Friday, May 18, 2012, at Benson & Langehough Funeral Home in Northfield.  A funeral mass will be held at 10AM on Saturday, May 19, 2012, St Dominic’s Catholic Church in Northfield.  Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Northfield.
