E. Elizabeth (Betty) Ackerson was born April 7, 1916, in Jamestown, New York, to Ernest and Hannah (Carlson) Ljungberg. She graduated from Jamestown High School in 1934 and after her education worked in bookkeeping for Art Metal Manufacturing. Betty met her future husband, John M. Ackerson, while he was visiting Jamestown. They married on October 23, 1948, in Jamestown. After marriage they moved to Waterford Township in rural Northfield where John farmed the Ackerson family farm with his brother. Along with being a homemaker and an active member of the Waterford community, Betty worked for Sheldahl Manufacturing for several years and in 1987 John retired from farming. They remained on the farm until moving into Northfield in 1998. John passed away on December 28th of that year. Betty continued to live independently in her own apartment at the Northfield Manor until her death.
Betty was a longtime active member of Cornerstone Community Church. She was wonderful at keeping track of “everything”, detail oriented, very hospitable and had a quiet, steady personality. Her strong Christian faith and optimism helped her to be a three-time cancer survivor. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Survivors include her daughters: Iris (Dan) Kissel of White Bear Lake and Kathleen (Lowell) Miller of Owatonna; 4 grandchildren: John (Jill), Brian, Kristi (Tony) and Jenny (Nate); and 5 great-grandchildren: Lauren, Sam, Raquel, Luke and Jesse. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her sister Iris.
