
Rice County is pleased to announce the reopening of McCullough Park & Campground. On August 19th we will begin to welcome guests to the newly renovated facility on beautiful Shields Lake in Erin Township.Â
In 2010, Rice County received a $400,000 State grant from the Clean Water, Land & Legacy Amendment Funds to assist in redevelopment of the facility. The facility has been designed to provide a natural resource based setting with a range of outdoor recreation activities that include camping as well as day use activities. McCullough Park & Campground contains a total of 104 acres that will offer activities for the entire family, including hiking, horseshoes, boating, fishing, sunbathing, bird watching, and lakeside picnicking.Â
The new facility features:
• 30 modern campsites located on Shields Lake
--20 sites with water and electric (2 ADA sites)
--10 sites without water or electric (1 ADA site)
--Each site contains a gravel pad, picnic table and fire ring
• Modern restroom and shower facility
• RV dump station
• Lake side Picnic ShelterÂ
• Wi-Fi internet access
• Adjacent to DNR public boat access
The following features will be also be included by summer of 2013: horseshoe pits, playground, fishing pier, dock and hiking trail.
