They enjoyed married life for 48 years until his passing in 1995. For the first 10 years they rented several farms in the area and then purchased a farm in the Dundas area in 1957. Helen was a 4-H leader for the Big Star Club for over 25 years, being the key leader for most of those years. She was active in the Community Club, Rice County Farm Bureau, and the Birthday Club. She enjoyed playing cards and games and was always trying to pull you into a game of Euchre. She spent many hours playing games and puzzles with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Helen and Roger spent many years enjoying their love of square dancing. They belonged to a traveling club that took them to various conventions in different states. Sometimes they even danced all night at the “night-owl” dances.
She was the “Avon Lady” for almost 50 years; traveling to many people’s homes and having many people stop at hers to pick up their supplies. Her children were often referred to as the Avon Lady’s kids.
