Lillian Ann Bastyr Valek, 91

Lillian Ann Bastyr Valek was born November 8, 1920, on the family farm at Lonsdale, Minnesota, to John and Mary (Sevcik) Bastyr.  She was baptized, confirmed, and attended parochial school at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lonsdale.  After her education she worked in Faribault and Northfield.  She married Ludwig J. Valek on November 10, 1942, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church .  After marriage, together, they farmed and raised a family on Ludwig’s home farm in Hazelwood.  They retired in 1972 and moved to Northfield.  Ludwig passed away on March 4, 1988.

Lillian was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church.  She was a former longtime member of Annunciation Catholic Church in Hazelwood where she was active with Rosary Society.  She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening.  She was a devoted wife and mother with a strong Christian faith.

Survivors include her children: Bonnie and husband Maynard Herda of Lonsdale, Ron and wife Diana of Farmington, Donna and husband Ronald Ziskovsky of Eagan, Gary and wife Jackie of Lonsdale, David and wife Becky of Cannon Falls; her daughter-in-law, Sue Valek of Monticello;  11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Dolores Bastyr of Lonsdale; and other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband, her son Ludwig Jr. “Butch” in 1993, and her brother Leonard Bastyr.

Lillian passed away Monday morning, May 7, 2012, at the Three Links Care Center in Northfield, at the age of 91.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11AM Thursday, May 10, 2012, at the Church of St. Dominic in Northfield with Fr. Dennis Dempsey officiating.  Interment will be Annunciation Catholic Cemetery at Hazelwood.  Casket bearers will be her grandchildren:  Jerry Herda, Lisa Novak, Lori Sturgeon, Michelle Phillips, Terry Ziskovsky, Thomas Ziskovsky, Brian Valek, Nate Valek, Andrea Schultz, Angie Valek and Heather Valek.  Visitation will be at the church beginning at 9AM.
