Millie Grisim, 88

Millie Grisim, age 88 of Northfield, passed away Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at the Three Links Care Center in Northfield.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 am Saturday, September 1st at the First United Church of Christ, Congregational in Northfield with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4-8:00 pm at the Bierman Funeral Home in Northfield and at the Church on Saturday 1 hour prior to Services.

Mildred Alice Grisim was born July 19, 1924 near Farmington, MN, daughter of Thomas and Clarice (Haverland) Stanforth. At a young age her family moved to Northfield where she attended school. Following school she began working cleaning homes in the local area. On October 29, 1942 she was united in marriage to Robert George Grisim and to this union 7 children were born.

Millie and Bob first lived on his grandfather’s farm on Highway 19 east of Northfield for three years and then rented a farm near the KYMN Radio Tower for 4 years. From there they moved to their longtime farm on Highway 47 where they lived for many years and raised dairy cows. Millie was active with the farm operation especially caring for the calfs and washing the milking equipment.

Millie was an excellent cook and baker and spent a lot of time in the kitchen. The kids still remember the smell of fresh baked bread and cinnamon rolls as they came into the house after chores. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting and playing cards with friends and family. She liked to feed and watch the birds from her window and was especially fond of her cat Snoop. Perhaps her favorite times were with her family and the picnics with the Grisim and Stanforth familys at the farm.

Millie Grisim is survived by daughters Darlene (Allan) Storlie, Sharon (Bob) Hruza, and Suzie (Jim) Pasch all of Northfield; sons Jim (Linda) Grisim of Janesville, Darrell (Kari) Grisim of Janesville, and Mike (Kathy) Grisim of Northfield; daughter-in-law Darlene Grisim of Savage; brother Jack (Louise) Stanforth of Florida; brothers-in-law Russ and Ken Grisim of Northfield, 23 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; and 6 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert; son Robert; sisters Viola Henwood and Lillian Nesseth.
