Northfield Offers Automatic Withdrawal for Paying Monthly Utility Bills

The modern-day convenience of paying your bills online—or better yet, having it done automatically—is now a reality for your monthly utility bill. With the complete installation of radio-read meters, the step of logging your monthly usage on your bill is no longer necessary. This clears the way for setting up payment automatically, removing yet another step, that of dropping off your payment at a local collection dropbox.

While using online bill-pay through your bank is convenient, it's important to know that this service is issuing a check and mailing it to the City. It is not automatically hitting the City's bank account the day you submit it. Since there are processing delays, it is possible that the City receives your payment after the new bills are run.

To alleviate such payment delays, citizens may now opt to sign up for the City's free Auto Draft option. The City will automatically debit your bank account on the 15th of each month. No checks, no hassle, no postage and no late charges. The form is available on the City's website, www.ci.northfield.mn.us. Return the completed form and a voided check to the City Finance Department to enroll. You will still receive your bill in the mail, so if there is an issue of a high bill (i.e. water leak, etc.) you can still call the City to help figure out why the bill is higher than expected.
