William (Bill) Steinhoff, 85

On Friday, December 2, 2011, William (Bill) Steinhoff, left his family, friends and acquaintances to be with his beloved wife, Mary Margaret, who left us last year. Loving father of daughters Gretchen Dorn and Katrina Fair, proud grandpa of grandson Spencer Dorn, son of Mabel and Spencer Steinhoff (Lancaster, Ohio, deceased), brother of Margaret (Steinhoff) Woodgeard (Lancaster, Ohio, deceased), uncle of Vicki Woodgeard Shroyer (Lawrenceburg, IN) and Tom Woodgeard (Lancaster, Ohio), nephew of Thalta Steinhoff Ward and Margaret Steinhoff Niesen (Hudson, NY, deceased) and cousin of Roderick Niesen and Judith Niesen Moront (Hudson, NY, deceased), Bill thoroughly enjoyed his retirement with his wife at Bur Oak Springs, their wooded land south of Northfield, Minnesota.

Growing up in the Hocking Hills of southeastern Ohio, Bill achieved the highest rank in Boy Scouting, the Eagle Scout. He later served as a Scoutmaster in Columbus, Ohio. Bill served his country in the United States Marine Corps during World War II from 1943 to 1946 in the Asiatic/Pacific theatre. He was honorably discharged and returned to the states to attend Ohio University. There, he served as president of the Men’s Independent Association and the Men’s Union Planning Board, and participated in the Student Council and Campus Affairs Committee. He spent his career in the field of human resources at various firms in central Ohio.

A remembrance gathering of family, friends and acquaintances will be held at the family home on Sunday, December 18 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Boy Scouts of America would be appreciated. Arrangements by the Bierman Funeral Home of Northfield.
