Northfield High School Names New Principal

The new principal will begin his new position in July.

NORTHFIELD, MN — Northfield High School has named a new principal, according to Northfield Public Schools.

Shane Baier will succeed the school's current principal Joel Leer, who accepted a position as an assistant professor at Minnesota State University, Mankato, the district said.

“Mr. Baier is a highly regarded, experienced school leader who has the right skill set to grow Northfield High School’s standing as one of the best high schools in Minnesota,” superintendent Dr. Matt Hillmann said. “His commitment to relationships, equity, academic excellence for every student, and program development are precisely the leadership qualities we were seeking. We are fortunate to have a leader of Shane’s caliber join our Northfield School District team.”

Over 40 students, parents and community members were involved in selecting Baier, the school district said.

Baier has been principal at multiple schools and has a Bachelor's and Master's degree from South Dakota State University, the district said. He also has an education specialist degree from Minnesota State University, Mankato, the district said.
