“It’s basically a full-day workshop—almost an artist retreat, if you will,” he said.

Art students will work with clinicians throughout the course of the day. The cafeteria will transform into an art exhibit for the public to come and sample the artistic talents from the Missota Conference. The keynote speaker for visual arts students is Michael Birawer, a Minneapolis painter known for his caricature landscapes.

On the music side, students also have a busy day. Leer said they’ll function as individual ensembles, work with clinicians, perform for other schools and prepare for a 7 p.m. concert.

The concert will have four groups. There will be a select band and choir, which will include a few students from each school, and a mass band and mass choir, which will involve the rest of the students.
