Northfield Man Facing Gun, Drug Charges

Dylan Vaughn Purdy, 19, faces eight charges.

A Northfield man was charged this week with possessing a pistol without a permit, possessing Percocet and Xanax without a prescription, and driving while impaired.

Dylan Vaughn Purdy, 19, was stopped in August 2011 in Burnsville after a report of a possible drunk driver. An employee of a gas station told police that Purdy was stumbling and falling down as he put gas in his vehicle, according to a criminal complaint filed in Dakota County District Court.

When approached by police, Purdy admitted to smoking marijuana earlier that night, the complaint says.

Upon searching Purdy's vehicle, police found a handgun on the inside of the driver's side door and a magazine with 11 bullets, according to the complaint. Purdy didn't have a permit for the gun. Police also found on Purdy a prescription bottle that was mislabeled and later determined to contain Percocet and Xanax.

A blood test later revealed the "presence of tetrahydrocannabinol, a metabolite of THC; diazepam and its metabolites; and alprazolam and its metabolites.  THC is a Schedule I controlled substance.  Diazepam and alprazolam are Schedule IV controlled substances," according to the complaint.

Purdy has previously been convicted of possession of drug paraphernalia in Rice County, according to Minnesota Court records.
