Northfield Road Construction Update
Here's a look at how Northfield's road construction projects are coming along.

Editor's note: This comes from the Public Works Department
The major news this week was the enormous amount of rain that fell on Thursday throughout the area. Besides some sod that was washed away on the Linden Street/Lockwood Drive area of the project, the project as a whole faired quite well considering the large amount of rain that fell in such a short amount of time. The following is a recap of the work that was completed this week, and work scheduled for next week. Take note, the Milling Contractor will be on-site throughout the project corridor to begin the 1-1/2” mill portions of the project. Have a great weekend, and stay dry!!!
Division Street and Eighth Street
Grading crews “toleranced” the Class V base early in the week on both Division Street and Eighth Street, and both streets were paved with the initial 2” base course of asphalt. Grading crews also worked on getting sidewalk base ready on both Division Street and Eighth Street in preparation for sidewalks and driveway aprons to be installed. Concrete crews were unable to make it to the site this week due to prior engagements.
Due to the enormous amount of rain late in the week, no work was completed on Friday. Concrete crews are scheduled to be on-site late Monday to start forming up walks on Division Street and Eighth Street, and start pouring on Tuesday morning.
Linden Street, Lockwood Drive, Meldahl Lane, Zanmiller Drive, North Avenue, Dresden Avenue, & Fremouw Avenue
Tree crews were on-site early in the week, and were able to install all tress on this portion of the job. Staff sent notices to all property owners with trees removed, and allowed property owners to choose the variety of tree from the City of Northfield’s approved tree list as a suitable replacement. Sodding crews were on-site mid-week installing sod on the North Avenue, Meldahl Lane, Lockwood Drive, and Zanmiller Drive portions of the job. Due to heavy rains at the end of the week, no additional sod was placed after Wednesday.
Next week, sodding crews will continue placing sod on all of this portion of the project, and expect to finish it up by weeks end. In addition to sodding, Heselton Construction will have its pavement milling sub-contractor on-site mid-week to mill the top 1-1/2” of pavement off of Dresden Avenue from the south entrance of Viking Terrace to Lincoln Parkway. This work will be completed under traffic, but motorist can expect delays in and around the work area.
Roosevelt Drive
Paving crews were on-site early in the week to install the Final Lift of asphalt on both Eisenhower Court and Monroe Court. Concrete crews were scheduled to complete the remainder of the sidewalks and driveway aprons on all of Roosevelt Drive, but were unable to make it to town due to prior engagements. Retaining wall crews were on-site to install the 1 retaining wall that was located along Roosevelt Drive.
Next week Monday, Heselton will have their pavement milling contractor on-site to mill the top 1-1/2” of pavement off of McKinley Drive, Roosevelt Drive, Kennedy Court, Buchanan Court, and VanBuren Court. Millings crews are expected to finish all of the milling in the area by the end of Tuesday. Again, this work will be completed under traffic, but motorist can expect delays in and around the work area. Concrete crews are also expected to be on-site late Monday to form up the remaining sidewalks and driveway aprons on the Roosevelt Drive area and finish pouring them on Tuesday.
