Northfield Street Construction Update

Mother Nature was a little unkind to us this week, but considerable progress was made on all areas under construction. The following is a rundown of work completed last week, and work scheduled for next week. 

Division Street and Eighth Street
Utility crews finished with all the sanitary sewer, watermain and storm sewer on the Eighth Street portion of the job this week. Crews also pressure tested the watermain, and are waiting for the results of the bacteria test before the Eighth Street watermain area is turned on. Grading crews were on-site late in the week to work on sub-cutting the top 28” of material out of the existing roadbed in preparation for the new select granular sand and class V gravel base. 

On Division Street, Utility Crews started on the mainline sanitary sewer installation starting at Eighth Street working south towards Woodley Street. Crews completed the sanitary sewer installation late in the week, and began with mainline watermain installation starting at Eighth Street and working their way south towards Woodley Street.

Next week, grading crews will continue sub-cutting material, and placing select granular sand and class V gravel base on the entire Eighth Street portion of the project. Utility crews expect to finish up with mainline watermain installations early in the week and then begin individual service connections on Division Street. This work should take the majority of the week to complete. 


Linden Street, Lockwood Drive, Meldahl Lane, Zanmiller Drive, North Avenue, Dresden Avenue, & Fremouw Avenue
Paving crews were on-site early in the week to put the initial base course of asphalt down on the entire area. Grading crews then began cutting out areas where the new sidewalks will be installed on Linden Street and Lockwood Drive. Crews also worked on raising “iron”, which includes all the manholes that are located in the street area. Crews also worked on adjusting catch basins and rehabbing storm structures. 

Next week, concrete crews are expected to be on-site Wednesday to start on sidewalk, driveway, and curb spot repairs on this northern section of the project. Concrete crews are expected to have all the sidewalks, driveway aprons, and curb spot repairs completed by the end of next week. 

Lockwood Drive Property Owners: there was an incident where the stump grinding contractor drove the stump grinding machine across some yards and caused some damage. The issue was brought up to the contractor and all damage will be fixed at the contractor expense.

Roosevelt Drive
Crews are expected to be on-site mid-week to start on curb removals and sidewalk grading on the Roosevelt Drive portions of the project. New sidewalks are going to be installed on West Roosevelt Drive from Jefferson Parkway to Truman Park. The new sidewalk will be located on the west side of Roosevelt Drive. New sidewalks will also be installed on East Roosevelt Drive from Jefferson Parkway to Tyler Park on the east side of Roosevelt Drive
