Northfield to Revamp Veterans Park Neighborhood
The Housing and Redevelopment Authority plans to fund a series of improvements.

Northfield's Veterans Park neighborhood will be getting a makeover.
The Housing and Redevelopment Authority plans on funding a spate of aesthetic, energy and safety improvements in the neighborhood, the Northfield News is reporting.
"The goal of the project is to help homeowners with energy efficiency and curb appeal of the home," Michele Merxbauer, the city's community development coordinator, told the paper. "It’s about being able to drive down the street and being able to take pride in your neighborhood."

Three Rivers Community Action is also contributing to the project. Two informational meetings will be held at 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. on April 2 at City Hall.

Qualified owner-occupied households that meet income requirements of the program and live within the 10-block area — bordered by Hwy. 3 to the west, Water Street to the east, Eighth Street to the north and Woodley Street to the south — are offered a grant fund match: $2 for every $1 spent by the homeowner, with a maximum grant of $10,000, according to a press release. Up to $5,000 in zero-interest loan funds are available for homeowners to use as their cash match.
