PHOTOS: Flooding Northfield—The Morning After

T.J. Heinricy, the city's streets and parks supervisor, said clean-up at Spring Clean Park has gone well today and most of the debris, like cornstalks, has been removed.

A flood warning is in effect for Rice County until 5:30 p.m.

About 6 inches of rain fell in the Northfield area overnight, with nearby areas receiving as much as 10 inches of rainfall.

Though the Cannon River rose 3 feet last night, according to Chief Chuck Walerius, the river is now receding in Northfield. However, downstream in Cannon Falls, some homes along the river are being evacuated as the river rises.

After many road closures last night, all roads are open. Crews are working to remove a tree on Wall Street Road by the , but vehicles can still get through.

The flooding didn't end with roads last night. Several parks and yards were flooded, as well as many houses throughout the area, according to emergency officials. The soccer complex at  received significant flooding and damage, which can be seen in the photos.

Shahar Fearing, owner of , said her store received some water damage and will be closed throughout the weekend but hopes to reopen next week.

There's a 40 percent chance of rain after 1 a.m. Saturday with a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms throughout Saturday, according to the National Weather Service. Sunday night could also bring more rain.
