PHOTOS: St. Olaf Students Take the Polar Bear Plunge

Nearly 1,000 people participated in Saturday's plunge.

Several students on Saturday made the trip to Burnsville to take a dip for Special Olympics Minnesota.

The students, including members of the , joined hundreds who braved the icy waters during the South Metro Polar Bear Plunge—an annual fundraiser for Special Olympics Minnesota.

Event coordinator Megan Lewis said 940 people registered to take a one-time dip in the chilly water for charity, raising $200,000 at the south metro event alone. There are 18 total Polar Bear Plunge events in Minnesota.
