A flash flood watch for Rice County remains in effect until Sunday morning. Up to 3 inches of rain could fall Saturday night and Sunday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
A severe thunderstorm watch that was supposed to be in place until 7 p.m. Saturday expired early.

However, Rice County and Northfield are in a week-long hazardous weather outlook.

SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO RE-DEVELOP OVER THE AREA LATE THIS EVENING THROUGH THE OVERNIGHT HOURS. PERIODS OF MODERATE TO HEAVY RAINFALL CAN BE EXPECTED...MAINLY DURING THE EARLY MORNING HOURS...LEADING TO ISOLATED FLASH FLOODING. A FLASH FLOOD WATCH IS IN EFFECT THROUGH SUNDAY AFTERNOON. IN ADDITION...THERE IS A SMALL RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS... MAINLY FOR FAR SOUTHERN MINNESOTA. PRIMARY HAZARDS INCLUDE DAMAGING WINDS AND LARGE HAIL WITH A SECONDARY HAZARD OF ISOLATED TORNADOES.
DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...SUNDAY THROUGH FRIDAY THUNDERSTORMS ARE IN THE FORECAST FOR SUNDAY AND TUESDAY. THERE IS A SMALL CHANCE A FEW STORMS MAY BE SEVERE ON SUNDAY IN FAR SOUTHEASTERN MINNESOTA.

UPDATE: 1:55 p.m.
At 1:22 p.m. the weather service radar was tracking thunderstorms along a line extending from New Germany to St. Peter that was producing dime-sized hail. The storm is moving east at 40 MPH.
A severe thunderstorm watch for Rice County and much of southern Minnesota until 7 p.m.
With rain in recent days and heavy rain expected in the area, a flash flood watch goes in effect at 4 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issue a severe thunderstorm watch for Rice and Dakota counties.
Much of southern Minnesota is also in the watch, which is set to expire at 7 p.m.

SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED OVER THE AREA THROUGH THIS EVENING AND INTO THE OVERNIGHT HOURS. SOME OF THE STORMS MAY BE SEVERE. THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON...THE PRIMARY THREATS WILL BE LARGE HAIL. LATER THIS EVENING AND TONIGHT...THE PRIMARY THREATS WILL BE DAMAGING WINDS AND ISOLATED TORNADOES. A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 700 PM CDT. IN ADDITION...SOME STORMS MAY CONTAIN HEAVY RAIN WHICH MAY CAUSE ISOLATED FLASH FLOODING.
