Here are five items to take note of today in Oakdale.

School Supply Drive

Three local churches are collecting new school supplies for Oakdale kids.

The churches—House of Prayer Lutheran Church, Guardian Angels Catholic Church and Holy Cross Lutheran Church—invite people to drop off supplies at Holy Cross, 6355 10th St. N., by Wednesday, Aug. 14.  Office hours are 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

County Fair

The Washington County Fair is now underway.

Thursday is Family Fun Day at the fairgrounds in Lake Elmo.

The Washington County Fair runs through the weekend.

New Laws

Aug. 1 marks the day several new laws go into effect in Minnesota, including gay marriage and new liquor legislation to address the state’s growing microbrew industry.

Family Fun

The city of Oakdale this week announced an upcoming activities and lawn-games event.

People can head out to the Discovery Center from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, for:

• bean bags,
• ladder golf,
• washer toss,
• koob,
• disc golf,
• tandem bikes,
• Nordic ski poles, and
• giant games.

The event will also feature the ITS Mobile and its built-in gaming system.

Admission is free. The Discovery Center is located at 4444 Hadley Ave.
