New MN Congressional Maps Released: What Changes In Oakdale?

OAKDALE, MN — Oakdale will remain in Minnesota’s Fourth Congressional District for the next decade, but other parts of the old district will now join their northern Washington County neighbors in the newly drawn Eighth District.

New maps released Tuesday by the Minnesota Special Redistricting Panel show the city of Stillwater will stay intact within the Fourth District, while Stillwater Township is split between the Fourth District and the Eighth District.

Northern Washington County, including Hugo and Forest Lake, are also moving to the Eighth District, having spent the past decade in the Sixth District.

The line between the Fourth District and the former Sixth District followed a straight line from County Road J West in the Mounds View area east to the St. Croix River.

That border now cuts south at Manning Avenue then east on Dellwood Road in Stillwater Township. The border then cuts north to include homes between Stonebridge Trail and County Road 11 in the Fourth District.

The Minnesota Special Redistricting Panel said it expanded the Eighth District further into northern Washington County because that area "shares the Eighth District’s rural character and aligns with its ‘woods and water’ geography and economy."

"Northern Washington County retains a rural character which, together with the nearby St. Croix River, tie it to northern Minnesota," the panel added.
