Oakdale Man Faces Felony Assault Charge for Holding a Machete to Son-In-Law's Neck

Orlando D. Espinosa made his first appearance in Washington County District Court for second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon.

An Oakdale man could spend up to seven years in prison for threatening his son-in-law with a machete. 

According to the complaint, Orlando D. Espinosa, 51, found his son-in-law going through his belongings in his bedroom on June 27. The son-in-law and his fiance and two children live with Espinosa. The victim told officers he was looking for a movie in Espinosa's bedroom. 

The two got into a confrontation when Espinosa told his son-in-law to "get the [expletive] out." Espinosa also told his son-in-law he would "kill him" if he tried to touch him.

Espinosa then walked up to the victim with a long-bladed machete, held the knife to his son-in-law's throat and said "I will [expletive] kill you," according to the complaint.

The victim told the police that if Espinosa had moved the blade at all he would have been injured. Police recovered the machete in Espinosa's room.

If found guilty Espinosa could face a maximum penalty of seven years in prison and $14,000 in fines.
