Armstrong H. S. ACT Scores Above Average

According to a Robbinsdale School District press release:

Robbinsdale Area Schools is committed to graduating students ready for college and career in an ever-changing world, and is encouraging more students to take the ACT – the most widely taken college entrance exam in the Midwest.  Minnesota typically ranks very high in the nation in ACT scores, and in 2012, among states where at least 50 percent of students took the ACT, Minnesota ranked number one, followed by Wisconsin and Iowa, which were tied for second.

The number of students taking the ACT in Robbinsdale Area Schools increased by nearly 4 percent over a year ago, and is up over eight percent from three years ago. Further, scores in all four tested areas – English, Mathematics, Reading and Science – were above the state average and well above the national average. 

While students will take different paths once they graduate from high school, there is wide agreement that students should be prepared for postsecondary education. In 2011, over 1.6 million students took the ACT nationwide.

The ACT reports college readiness benchmark scores – the minimum score needed on an ACT subject-area test to indicate a 50 percent chance of obtaining a B or higher, or about a 75 percent chance of obtaining a C or higher in the corresponding credit-bearing college courses. Those subject areas include Algebra, Biology, English Composition, and Social Science. ACT encourages educators and the public to focus on the number and percentage of students meeting or exceeding ACT’s College Readiness Benchmark Scores, as ACT believes it is a much more meaningful statistic than an average composite score for a group of students.

At Armstrong, the percentage of students meeting or exceeding the College Readiness Benchmark Scores is higher than the state average in all tested areas but the Social Science area which, at 64 percent, is the same as the state average.
