There's always plenty of different things happening this week in Plymouth. Listed below are a few events and activities to know about and attend. (Do you have a cool event? Let us know in the comments below or add them to our events calendar any time for free!)
Plymouth's Entertainment in the Parks program continues this week with a few different and free concerts and other events around the city:
• First up is Monarch performing at 7 p.m. Monday, July 30, on the Hilde Small Stage next to City Hall on Plymouth Blvd. The group has been around since the 70s and plays music from the 60s-80s, rock and roll and R&B.
• Second is Bethany Larson and the Bee's Knees concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, on the Parker's Lake stage off County Road 6. Larson grew up a preacher’s daughter with three older brothers and is from Austin, Minn. She picked up the guitar at fifteen and trained in classical voice in college. The songwriter soon hit the stage and performs with her brother Chris on guitar, keyboards and vocals along with Sara Horishnyk on drums and Sam Johnson on bass.
• Two events on Wednesday, July 31, are free for the whole family as well. First is the Farmer's Market from 2:30-6:30 p.m. every Wednesday in the Ice Center parking lot off Plymouth Blvd. The second is Movies in the Park at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Hilde Performance Center. This week's movie is the new version of "The Karate Kid."
• Two more events Thursday, Aug. 1, include a bike helmet sale at 6 p.m. at the Fire Station No. 3 on Dunkirk Lane. Bike helmets are on sale at a discounted price every first and third Thursday of the month. Helmets range in size from toddler to extra-large adult and come in a variety of styles and colors. Traditional helmets cost $5-13 while multi-sport helmets cost $15-23.
• The other event on Thursday is at 7 p.m. with a free performance of The North Star Band at the Hilde Amphitheater on Plymouth Blvd. The Band has more than 50 musicians from the state and tours internationally.
• The Plymouth Fire Department's Golf Classic is 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, at Pheasants Acre Golf Course in Rogers. It's $100 per golfer and includes golfing, dinner, silent auction and prizes.
• Also on Friday is the "Teen Concert: Loose Ends" at 6 p.m. at the Hlide Performance Center on Plymouth Blvd. The concert features the cover band "The Loose Ends," which consists of two guitarists, a bassist and a drummer. The teen band plays a variety of classic rock and current hits by Green Day Cage the Elephant and Vanilla Ice. The four have been friends since the band members were in first grade and performed together for more than a year.
