Plymouth Man Charged with Threatening Two People with Ax

A Plymouth man has been charged with threatening to kill his wife and a New Hope man with an ax.

Paul Obanyi Ondimu, 26, is charged with two felony counts of making terroristic threats, each of which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

New Hope police were called to a home on Nov. 28 to investigate a report of someone brandishing a weapon, according to the criminal complaint, signed by New Hope Police Detective Marty Williams.

Officers spoke to a man who said Ondimu had shown up at the home earlier that evening because he believed that the man and his wife were having an affair.

The victim’s brother told police that about 15 minutes before they arrived, he heard someone knocking at the door. He said he opened the door and found Ondimu standing there; Ondimu asked to speak to his brother.

When the victim came to the door, Ondimu was holding an ax, according to the complaint. Ondimu questioned the victim about his involvement with his wife.

Police investigated further and found that before Ondimu went to the New Hope home to confront the victim, he had sent a threatening text message to his wife. The message included a photo of Ondimu holding the ax and a message that said either Ondimu or the victim would “die tonight,” according to the complaint.

Plymouth police found Ondimu at a home in Plymouth and asked him about the ax. Ondimu told them that he left it in a garbage bin outside; officers recovered the ax.

Ondimu told police that he recently found out about his wife’s affair with the victim, and that he bought an ax, sent the threatening message to his wife and then drove to the victim’s house to confront him, according to the complaint.

Ondimu remains in the Hennepin County Jail on a $30,000 bond. An omnibus hearing in his case is scheduled Jan. 11 in Hennepin County District Court.
