Youth Drama Camps All This Week in Plymouth

Whether a child has dreams of making it big on stage or just wants to get rid of stage fright, they get the chance Aug. 12-17 with two drama camps in Plymouth. 

Taught by local musician and theater director Allison Raney, the camps are designed for children ages 6-11. Both are sponsored by the city of Plymouth Parks and Recreation Department. 

Raney has a bachelor’s degree in music from Augsburg College. She teaches music lessons and acting workshops and is the youth choir director for a church in south Minneapolis.

More about the two different camps:

"Music and Movement for the Stage" teaches students to use creative improvisation to enhance stage performance to the theme "Welcome to the Jungle." Participants focus on stage presence, vocal techniques using a microphone, creative movement, ballet technique, musical theater, jazz and contemporary dance.

"Stories in Motion" instructs students through fun games and exercises. Participants develop stage presence, self-esteem, reading comprehension and presentational skills. The camp focuses on story-telling, improvisation, character development, props and costumes to the theme "Welcome to the Jungle." 

Family and friends are invited to attend a performance in the Plymouth Black Box Theatre at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17.
