Blessing of Easter Food at St. Peter’s Church
Father Jerry Dvorak will bless Easter food at 1:00pm on Holy Saturday (March 30th). Tradition holds that after a long Lenten season of abstinence and fasting, favorite foods are brought in a basket to the church for a special blessing. A white candle is inserted and the basket is covered with white linen. The blessed food is then eaten on Easter Sunday, connecting the Easter celebration with home and the family dinner table. The foods within each basket may be personalized according to family tastes and customs. Children are encouraged to bring their own basket filled with fruits, Easter candies, chocolate bunnies and jelly beans. Everyone is welcome to participate in this cherished tradition at St. Peter’s. St. Peter’s Church is located at 6730 Nicollet Avenue South in Richfield. Please call the parish office at 612-866-5089 with questions.
