Stewartville, MN High School Shooting: Victim Still Critical, Shooter Identified
Authorities said the injured student remains hospitalized as investigators identify the shooter as a former student.

STEWARTVILLE, MN β Authorities on Monday released new details about last weekβs incident at Stewartville High School that left a student critically injured and a former student dead.
According to the Olmsted County Sheriffβs Office, the victim is a juvenile male from Stewartville and a member of the Stewartville High School wrestling team. With permission from his family, officials said the student remains hospitalized and was listed Sunday evening as being in critical but stable condition.
Authorities identified the shooter as Logan Moyer, a 19-year-old Stewartville resident who graduated from Stewartville High School in 2024. Investigators emphasized that Moyer was not a coach, volunteer, or paid staff member of the wrestling program. He previously participated on the wrestling team while he attended Stewartville Schools.

An autopsy was performed on Friday afternoon by the Southeastern Minnesota Medical Examinerβs Office. While final results are still pending, authorities said the findings to date are consistent with suicide.
The sheriffβs office said the investigation remains active and ongoing, and not all details can be released at this time. Officials said they continue to support the Stewartville School District and those affected by the incident.

βOur condolences go out to everyone impacted by this incident,β the sheriffβs office said in a statement, asking the public to give those affected time and space to be with family and friends.
The shooting happened early Friday morning in the parking lot of Stewartville High School, according to the Olmsted County Sheriffβs Office.
Deputies were dispatched to the school, located at 440 6th Avenue Southwest, around 5 a.m. after receiving reports that a person had been shot. When deputies arrived, they learned that two people had been shot.
Authorities said a school bus was parked in front of the building, preparing to transport the Stewartville High School wrestling team to a meet, when a teammate was walking through the parking lot, and a gunshot was heard. The student was found lying on the ground.
As school staff and students searched the area, a second gunshot was heard.
An adult male was then found lying on the ground with a rifle in his hand. Investigators believe the man suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service transported the injured student to a hospital, where he underwent surgery.
The sheriffβs office said it has been in contact with both families involved, who are cooperating with the investigation.
