Annual Roseville Flower Planting Postponed

Heavy rains soak flower beds.

For the first time in 22 years, the city of Roseville’s annual spring planting of thousands of flowers at Central Park has been postponed.

The event, which typically attracts about 150 volunteers, was delayed Saturday morning due to heavy rains.

“There is a lot of standing water in the flower beds,” said Lonnie Brokke, Roseville city director of parks and recreation.

Volunteers will be planting some 13,500 flowers at Central Park on the east side of Lexington Avenue, from about Brooks Avenue to County Road C, said Jeff Evenson, city parks project coordinator. The city’s cost for the program is about $3,000, he said.

In lieu of Saturday’s planting, volunteers were able to pick up the flowers at the city’s maintenance garage, then they can plant them when the weather improves, Brokke said.

“Our goal is to get them (the flowers) all in before Memorial Day weekend,” Brokke said.

Said Evenson, “We have a really good group of volunteers and they really take pride in this.”
