The summer run for most of Roseville's city park flowers-including some 13,000 of them along a setion of Lexington Avenue at Central Park-could be coming to an end.Â
The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning for the Twin Cities, including Roseville, starting after midnight and lasting until about 8 a.m. The NWS is predicting an overnight low of 34.
Tom McKusick, of the Minnesota State Horticultural Society in Roseville, is advising residents to cover their annuals and vegetables, including tomatoes and peppers. He recommends using cloth sheets, not anything plastic. Pottable plants can be brought indoors for the night.

But at City Hall, officials said they won't cover plants and flowers at the community parks, explaining they don't have the staff to carry out such a project.
Lonnie Brokke, Roseville director of parks and recreation, said he and his staff are resigned to the possibility that frost will hit the city after Labor Day. However, he expedts hanging plants at the city's Muriel Salin Arboretum to be brought in for the night.
