Help Slated For Laid-off Ultimate Electronics Workers in Roseville, Other Locations

State assistance coming from Dislocated Worker Program.

The state Dislocated Worker program has allocated  $200,000 to help  50 laid-off workers at Ultimate Electronics in Roseville and five other Twin Cities locations find new jobs.

That news came Monday in an announcement from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development. (DEED).

Besides Roseville, Ultimate Electronics also closed stores this year in Burnsville, Edina, Maple Grove, Minnetonka and Woodbury. Jobs were lost when the parent company filed for bankruptcy and closed the stores., according to DEED officials. The Roseville store was located at 1723 County Road B2 W. across from Rosedale Center.

The state agency said another 115 laid-off workers at two other Twin Cites companies -American Hardware Mutual Insurance Company in Minnetonka and Wellman Dynamics in Plymouth- will also receive a variety of services to help them find new work. That help will include exploring new careers, learning job hunt strategies and  updating  skills.

Between the three companies, the Dislocated Worker Program has awarded $602,500 in grants.
